The origin of Mother's Day:
Mother's Day began during the middle ages in
Europe as "Mothering Sunday". During this time a young person
would leave their home to learn their trade as an apprentice. A few
weeks before Easter celebrations many of these young people would return
to their homes and families. This was known as "going a-mothering."
Upon the Sunday after their return the family would go to church and
offer gifts to both their mothers and the church. This day became known
as Mothering Sunday. This tradition has endured to become Mother's Day.
Today, Mother's Day is celebrated in the United
States on the second Sunday in May. Mother's Day has become an international
holiday when we honor all the mothers in our lives with love, gratitude,
respect and delicious cakes and cookies from French's Cupcake Bakery.
