Not
all of the questions and answers here are concerning wedding cakes but
you'll have to scroll toward the end to find them!
How
much does the average wedding cake cost?
Our wedding cakes are priced by the serving (please call the bakery and speak
to our wedding cake coordinator for cake information and quotes.) The price
per serving includes your choice of numerous cake flavors, fillings, designs
and decorations. Check out our wedding cake
sizes and servings guide.
Is
the top tier included in the serving count?
Yes, the top tier is counted in the amount of servings. The top tier was traditionally
saved and served on the 1st anniversary, but this tradition is rarely observed
today. It is however; still an option and we will gladly provide a box and
plastic bag for safe freezing.
Can
each tier be a different flavor?
Yes, each tier can be a different flavor, filling or even have a different
design on it. Since we are a custom bakery anything is possible.
Can
I taste the cakes, icings and fillings before I order?
Yes, a complimentary tasting can be scheduled. Just call and set the date,
time and a few suggestions of what items you would like to sample. They will
be ready for you when you come in.
What
is a groom’s cake? Do I need to order one?
The groom’s cake is a smaller cake that is served at the wedding reception.
Young woman (unmarried) will want to take a piece of the groom’s cake
home to place under their pillows and the old wives tale says “they
will marry whomever they dream of that night.” The definition has changed
over the years; it has now come to represent something about the groom; a
hobby, profession, etc. It can also be used for extra servings when needed.
Do
you charge for delivery? How far do you deliver?
Yes, we charge for delivery of your cake. Delivery fee includes deliver and
the setting up of your cake. We will also put your topper on if it is available.
Delivery charges start at $25.00 - $30.00 for most of Costa Mesa and some
of Newport Beach and go up according to location. We will deliver any distance
that is feasible. We have made deliveries to Palm Springs, San Diego, Santa
Barbara and Las Vegas. Our wedding coordinator can discuss this with you.
Some cakes travel better than others do so this is a definite factor.
Is
delivery available for products other than wedding cakes?
Yes, we will gladly delivery any of our bakery items.
Decorated cakes, cookies, breakfast items or breads. The cost of delivery
depends on the location.
Do
you require a deposit when cake order is placed?
Yes, we require a minimum, non-refundable, deposit of $25.00 when you
place your order. Should your deposit be for more than $25.00, anything over
$25.00 is refundable if the order is canceled. The $25.00 deposit locks in
future price increases and reserves your delivery date and time.
When
does my wedding cake need to be paid in full?
Full payment of your cake is due one month prior to your wedding if you are
paying by check or two weeks if you are paying by credit card or cash. You
may pay by charge over the phone if this is more convenient.
What
if I need to adjust the size of my cake for more or less servings?
This is not a problem as long as we know what the adjustment is within one
week of your wedding date. Sometimes side cakes can be ordered to serve more
guests and the original cake size left as is. This can be discussed with our
wedding coordinator and changes made even a few days prior to your wedding
date.
When
do we need to order our wedding cake?
Most customers order their cake 2 to 6 months in advance. The general rule
is to order your wedding cake when you know approximately how many guest you
have attending. If your cake is being delivered placing your order early allows
for more choices in delivery times.
Who
does the flowers on the cake and table?
We love doing butter cream, gum paste, royal, chocolate or real shells or
silk flowers ourselves. Fresh flowers need to be ordered from a local florist
and arranged on the cake by them. We however, will work with your florist
and coordinate delivery of the cake as needed.
How
much do you charge to rent your equipment?
We charge a refundable deposit for the standard plates and post on your cake
when they are returned to us in good, clean condition within a week after
the event. We do, however require a users fee for use of acrylic, crystal,
stairs or any other novelty cake stands used. This is to offset the expense
of replacements.
Do
we need to supply the knife and cake server?
Yes, you do need a knife and cake server for slicing the cake and taking pictures.
Some sites provide them, but most don’t.
Can
you make a cake from a picture I saw in a magazine?
We love to duplicate cake designs. We can even duplicate the design of your
parents or grandparents cake if you have a photo of it. Remember that it will
not be an exact replica but we can discuss the complexities of the design
and create a cake to the best of our abilities.
What
if my wedding is outdoors in the heat of the summer?
This can create a problem if your cake has whipped cream icing. We use real
whipped cream and direct heat can cause it to break down within a short period
of time. We recommend using butter cream icing and since we keep your cake
refrigerated until it is delivered the icing is a lot more durable. Delivery
should be scheduled as close to the time of the reception as possible. We
can not emphasize more the need for a shady spot and/or a canopy over any
cake for a daytime outdoor wedding.
Do you charge for harder designs?
Not normally. Our cake prices include a huge array of custom designs. A basket
weave is the same price as a swiss dot design. We do however, charge more
for cake components, added structures, handmade flowers, fondant icing or
bows, chocolate shells or curls, silver and gold gilding, etc. Our wedding
cake coordinator can give you an exact cost for any design when you order
your cake.
What
does the term custom scratch bakery mean?
We make all our products on the premises using the finest ingredients and
techniques available. All our icings, fillings and cakes are made using our
own recipes, not from bought premixes. You will find all our flavors to be
uniquely ours.
Can I order other bakery products?
Yes, we are a full line bakery and we produce numerous other delicious products
daily. Just to name a few are our custom novelty cakes for birthdays, baby
showers or anniversaries. We do a nice assortment of cupcakes, fancy cakes,
decorated cookies, and French pastries. Our breakfast items are wonderful
and we bake over 20 different flavors of danish, coffeecakes and muffins.
Over 35 different kinds of bread and rolls are baked fresh daily. For chocolate
lovers we recommend the “Jerry Lee’s Killer Chocolate Cake,”
“Chocolate Truffles” or “French Kisses.” We also have
lemon bars, brownies, and fruit bars. See Products
List.
Do
you do photo cakes?
Yes we do photo cakes and cookies. Give us your favorite photo of your children,
parents or even your pet and we will create a cake with the exact edible photo
image on the top. The photo is not damaged and is returned to you. Perfect
for wedding or baby showers, anniversaries, over-the-hill, birthday or any
holiday or event. Photo cookies of the bride and groom are perfect for each
place setting when they are bagged with ties. We also accept digital images
from a digital camera or scanner. Just e-mail your photo to us.
Do
you do cupcake trees?
Yes we do cupcake trees. We have beautiful cupcake tree stands that will accommodate
up to 200 cupcakes. This is a perfect solution for the free at hearts that
want to break away from the traditional. Cupcake trees are perfect for birthdays,
weddings, office events and receptions of any kind. Very little clean up or
serving is required.
Do
you have to call ahead to get an order?
It’s always a good idea to phone an order in if you have a definite
selection that you want for you event. We do fill the store daily with many
of our more popular and regular items for you to choose from. If you call
the bakery before coming in we will gladly hold any item for you until your
arrival. If the decorator is still working, it is possible for you to place
a same day order. Selections would depend on what is available that day.
How
many days should I allow for placing an order?
Most orders only require a day’s notice to be baked and/or decorated.
It is a good idea to place your order as soon as you know how many guests
you will be serving. Cutout shortbread cookies decorated with royal icing
and bagged, require a two-day notice since they can’t be bagged until
they dry. Some fancy cakes, cheese cakes, Tiramisu or brownie chocolate mousse
cakes. require two days notice. Call the store and check if you have any questions
regarding the availability of a product.
Do
you do adult cakes?
Yes we do “naughty adult” cakes. We are very discreet and the
cake is covered for travel from the bakery to the party site. We don’t
keep a photo book of these cakes, but we can usually create them by just talking
to the customer. Adult cakes are a fun and naughty way to celebrate bachelor/bachelorette
and fraternity/sorority parties or special milestone birthdays such as 21st,
30th, 40th, etc.
